James Cook University (JCU) ตั้งอยู่ทางเหนือของรัฐควีนสแลนด์ ซึ่งอยู่ในเขตอากาศที่ค่อนข้างอบอุ่น ไม่หนาวมากนัก มหาวิทยาลัยนี้ถูกตั้งชื่อตามนักสำรวจชาวอังกฤษที่ได้ค้นพบทวีปออสเตรเลีย คือ กัปตัน เจมส์ คุก อีกทั้งยังเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยที่เก่าแก่เป็นอันดับ 2 ในรัฐควีนส-แลนด์ มหาวิทยาลัยนี้เป็นอีกหนึ่งมหาวิทยาลัยที่มีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังในด้านงาน วิจัยที่สำคัญ ยังติดอันดับ 1 ใน 100 มหาวิทยาลัยทั่วภูมิภาคเอเชีย อีกทั้งยังได้รับรางวัลจาก World Tourism Organisation (WTO) ให้เป็นสถาบันสำหรับการเรียนดีเด่นทางด้าน Tourism ซึ่งติดอันดับที่ 12 ของโลกอีกด้วย
