California Lutheran University ถูกก่อตั้งเมื่อปี 1959 ตั้งอยู่ในเมือง Thousand Oaks ในรัฐ California ซึ่ง Main Campus ก็มีชื่อเดียวกับชื่อเมืองคือ Thousand Oaks Campus เมืองนี้สงบเงียบน่าอยู่ และมีต้นโอ๊คปลูกไว้มากมาย ตามชื่อเมือง ที่สำคัญมีแหล่ง Shopping ไว้คอยอำนวยความสะดวกให้กับนักเรียนด้วยเช่นกัน นักเรียนทั้งหมดมีจำนวน ประมาณ 3,500 คน ซึ่งจำนวนนักเรียนต่อห้องเรียน จะไม่มากกว่า 15 คน นักเรียนจะได้รับการเอาใจใส่ดูแลจากอาจารย์ผู้สอนเป็นอย่างดี อีกทั้งอาจารย์ส่วนใหญ่ นับเป็น 85% ของอาจารย์ทั้งหมด จบการศึกษาในระดับปริญญาเอก และเป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญในสาขานั้นๆ อย่างดีเยี่ยม สาขาวิชาที่เด่นดังในด้านการเรียนต่อ สำหรับนักเรียนนานาชาติได้แก่ psychology, computer science, business administration, public policy and administration, และ information systems and technology นอกจากนี้มหาวิทยาลัยนี้ยังส่งเสริมทางด้านการกีฬาอีกด้วย นักเรียน นักศึกษาของมหาวิทยาลัยนี้ได้รับรางวัลดีเด่นทางด้านกีฬาในหลากหลายสาขาเช่นกัน
